Editing the images for our magazine front cover
To edit them I changed the contrast brightness and colour tones. This made them really dramatic and gave us a block of black at the bottom so that are text could be inserted. I will now pass these images onto Charlotte so that she can create the magazine front cover.
We have decided to use the bottom Left image, we decided on this image as we believe that it is the most effective. It is effective because of the lighting on her face the shadows and the colours. To get Ellie to look scared in the image was quite challenging because they needed to be realistic. But i think this is the most realistic and she genuinely looks frightened. This image is supposed to replicate final scene of Ellie running through the woods away from the camera and I feel this image is most successful.

Images for Magazine front cover
This was the Magazine front cover that we designed, these are the images that I took.
I organised to meet up with ellie (Our main character) to take some photos. It was actually really difficult to re-inact the look we wanted as the way her hair is in the film poster meant it had to be held up to have that effect. After a few shots we managed to have a few potential pictures.
These are a few of the shots:
I ended up having to take this image with Ellie lying on the floor, it is the only was I could successfully get her hair to fan out around her. When doing this I had to ensure I was at the right camera angle so that it didn't look like I was looking down on her. I asked Ellie to look scared and clasp her face and then took as many images as I could.
After taking this image and showing the girls, we realised that it wasn't going to work on our front cover. One reason it wouldn't work is because it is a landscape photo meaning that it would have to be stretched to fit the the poster how we would like it.
I will reschedule with ellie to re-take this image.
I arranged to see Ellie to take the image for the magazine front cover again.
This time I did it with dramatic lighting to give it a spooky effect.I think these worked well, It was hard to be able to organise the image as I was trying to put the light in a dramatic way and take the image at the same time.

Final Music choices for the trailer
When i was shortisting the songs I had to look out for a number of things.
- It had to fit our genre
- The right tempo
- I also had to find songs suitable for the sections of the trailer that were not supposed to be scary
- A song that had a build up to a loud beat in the middle
- A mysterious song to end the trailer on.
These are the songs we as a group shortlisted it down to:
Then together as a group we listened through each track and decided where it would fit in best. We used alot of the same song throughout the quiet bits of the trailer to build suspense. And then we used a variety of songs for the main action parts of the trailer.
These were the final music choices:
This is what the music in our final trailer looked like.

Filming Day
The next shots all took place at my house and in the woods opposite my house so we drove to my house and started to set up there. Our first task was to clear the drive way of any objects we didn't want to be seen in our trailer, this meant moving cars out of the driveway as we needed it to look as if they were the only ones at the house. As Charlotte was doing filming she set up the camera and me and Ella directed the girls of what to do.
The first shot at the house was the girls pulling into the driveway. This was a simple and straightforward establishing shot.
The next shot was a long shot of the girls getting out the car and talking amongst themselves. We had to retake this a few times as it was hard to signal to them when to get out of the car. We then did two medium shots of two girls talking to each other about the house. This shot almost sets the scene, as one of the girls is concerned making the viewers concerned with her. After the girls finished talking a long shot of the girls walking into the house was taken. We had then completed all of the outside shots for this section so we moved indoors. In the house we went into the lounge and set up our scene, we had to improvise with some props as I realised for the shot with the shot glasses in I only had 3 shot glasses, so instead we had to use a small very similar candle holder. I put the phone in place and the Ouija board was placed on the table, after doing this we were ready to begin. Charlotte set-up the camera whilst me and Ella ran through with the girls the shots that we were going to be doing.
The first shot that took place in here was the shot of the girls lowering there shot glasses whilst saying cheers. We did this from a birds eye view looking down so that the ouija board was visible below.
The girls then began to play the Ouija board and lucy pretends to be possessed. We did a few takes on this shot as we had to make it look as realistic as we could. We then had to take shots of each of the girls looking scared by try and hold the continuity. As lucy reveals she is joking to the girls we did a medium shot of Ellie looking agry and throwing the Ouija board onto the floor, again we did this shot a few times untill we found one that was convincing enough.
The next shot was of Samantha and Beth laughing at lucys trick. The girls were obviously doing fake laughs so we had to make them sound realistic and this took a few takes. After this shot this is when the action begins. We used the phone that we had previously picked and put it up ontop of a shelf. We then had to use a sound effect from a mobile phone and pretend it was the phone ringing, this actually worked really well. We did a long shot of the phone and then a long shot of the girls, when the phone began to ring we told the girls to imediatly turn there heads and look shocked. Ellie found this very hard to grasp and kept turning her head very slowly, we eneded up doing about 7 takes of this shot to get it right, but finally we got a shot that worked.
As the phone carrys on ringing, Lucy slowly gets up and walks to the phone and picks it up, We then zoomed in on Lucys face as she spoke. We found it hard to keep the camera stil lwhilt zooming in and this shot was a bit wobbly. As lucys speaks we told her to sound cautious of who was on the other end of the phone. There is a nervous atmosphere as lucy speaks. Ella was standing by the light switch and the girls had been instructed that when the light got turned of they had to scream, as Lucy says 'hello' again the lighs are turned of and the girls scream. The girls were actually quite scared when filming so their screams sound very realistic which is good.
We then moved onto filming the flashing shots that would then finish our film trailer. We didnt do these in the order they would appear as some of the girls needed to get home. We began with Beths shot, this was a long shot of her running up the stairs, she needed to be screaming and trip half way up for her to look like she was running away from something. We dimmed the lights in the hallway to give it a more dramatic and creepy look. Charlotte set up the camera at the bottom of the stairs and me and Ella ran through with beth what she needed to do. We re-shot this shot a couple of times so that we had a choice of which one looked best. On the last take beth did actually trip up the stairs without pretending to this was actually really good because it was realistic. After doing beths shot, she wasnt needed in any of the other shots so she went home.
The next part was samanthas part, this shot was of her running from the lounge where the lights had gone out into the kitchen grabbing a knife and backing away from the camera.
This was one of my favourite shots as i think it worked really well. As sam grabbed the knife frantically from the draw the it catches the light and it makes it really obvious to the viewer that she is holding a knife and gives it a dramatic effect.
The next shot was Lucys shot, we went upstairs and the camera was set up in the hallway, Ella turned of the lights and only the bathroom light was left on, again we had to hold to continuity so we couldnt make the light settings to different to in the previous shots. This shot was quite difficult as we neeeded to give the effect that the door was being slamed from the outside and then Lucy was trying to escape. As we were running out of time we found it hard to think quickly of other ways to shut the door without lucy doing it herself. In the end we just did the shot and lucy slammed the door herself. Althought it is not that noticable thisis a shot we may consider doing again when we have more time.
We were then onto the last shot. This was of Ellie running through the woods. Before we went down to the woods we warned the neighbors of what we were doing as we didnt want to frighten them as Ellie would be screaming. This shot needed to use the night vision on the camera for it to work, once we had done a few practise shots and got used to using the camera in the dark we began doing a few takes. As it was so dark in the woods we had to be carefull that we didnt loose sight of Elliew whilst filming, to give the shot extra light, when ellie was running away from the camera i followed shining a torch in her path so that the camera was always able to see her. The end part of this shot was ellie falling to the floor and screaming 'leave me alone'. As it was icy in the woods we had to be carefull when running. We took about four takes of this shot so again we had options.
That was the last shot and after that we had finished filming. Ella took the equipment home ready to transfer to the computer the next day so that we could begin editing.

Filming
We then decided to set up a thread (email) on the social network site, Facebook.
Doing this made it then easier for us to all communicate a find another date to film. Tuesday the 7th of December is the date we decided on for a couple of hours after school.
